Short-term gain capital gains are taxed as ordinary income.

Consequently, if you are in the marginal 36% bracket, short-term gains are taxed at 36%, and your capital gains are taxed at 28% or 20% depending on holding period.

If you are in the 28% bracket, short term gains are taxed at 28%, and capital gains are taxed as above

If you are in the 15% bracket, short term gains are taxed at 15%, and capital gains are taxed at 15% or 10% depending on holding period.

Of course, they'll probably tinker with this again in future years, so it's not good to count on this for the long term.
