Martin,

I use GreenLine (now associated with Waterhouse) in New York to avoid the currency exchange problem. They trade directly on the Canadian exchanges. I'm sure there are others that trade on Canadian exchanges but I haven't found any. GreenLines commissions are low but their per share component can still hurt when the price of the stock is very low. You can reach them on 1 800 862 9515.

Happy investing!

Cheers,
Larry Smith

Martin,

There are several on-line traders that charge low transaction fees. They include suretrade.com (us$8/trade) and canada.etrade.com

Good Luck.

Sincerely,

Hi Martin - I see that you've had some responses to your trading dilemma. I guess that the commission didn't bother me too much because I would be buying in 10K to 20K lots, so even if the commission was $700 in and out, I' d still be making $4,300 to $9,300 on a 50 cents swing - pretty easy money for a 1 to 7 day hold.. My tale of woe in seeing a portfolio dissolve is even worse than yours, but I echo your sentiments - Never Again!

Regards

bbruin

Martin, as they say misery likes company. Regarding the following,...................................

<< My only (but big) mistake was in being a greedy pig and not cashing my chips in sooner. >>

Join the crowd!! I watched my B.B. portfolio drop from U.S.$500,000 to $163,000. in six (6) months for just that same reason. Stupid me, stupid me!! I should have just watched my 10/20 day MA charts and pulled the trigger, but greed overcame me. Never again... I hope <G>.

.....................I know exactly and I mean EXACTLY what you mean!!!

Regards and better days ahead
