Netscape setting up another division to capitalize on popular web site:http://www.cnnfn.com/hotstories/companies/9803/25/netscape/

Of course their recent history includes the navio venture that resulted in zero shareholder value and the actra unit for ecommerce, yet another concept with no results yet.

So I am sceptical of this being done right. It sounds stale from the start --the unit is headed up by Mike Homer who will be exec. v.p. and general mgr.

I am coming around to the conclusion that this is one stodgy, apple computer like company. and the reasons for their failings have a lot less to do with antitrust issues than many, including myself want to acknowledge.

Maybe netscape should sell books and cd's direct thru the web.Forget all the other stuff.

I'm not sure I believe all these numbers. For instance, I think the Netscape useage is around triple that shown, perhaps more. It seems to me the Office use would overlap the Word use, since it's part of Office, but the overlap is not shown. And I bet the number of solitaire users (who have ever played it) is more like 50% of all Windows users.

However, overall the numbers are rather poignant, as you imply.
