Best regards,

As I see it, some things point up for AMD
1) Good acceptance as low cost alternative in Intel in consumer arena
2) Good price movement lately (usually, not always, good sign)
3) Rumors of better yields
4) Some new products in the pipeline
Some things point down for AMD
1) Public silence on yield from Management (previously not shy)
2) CFO bails out (usually, not always, harbinger of disaster)
3) Non-acceptance (largely) in business arena
4) Price cuts from Intel
5) Barrage of new high speed and mobile products from Intel
6) IBM deal (Help! I've fallen and I can't get up)

My guess is that the quarter will show some improvement, but not a "solid" solution of the yield problems. If the problem is that they pushed the design rules too hard, better hygiene (clean conditions) will make marginal differences, but not resolve root flaws. Trouble is that back-to-back losses makes your cash-debt position shakier. Lenders demand richer terms. If AMD actually announces that "the yield problem is history", AMD would probably run up hard and fast. If AMD announces something like "Management is intensely focused on the yield problem" I would guess back to the teens.

Place you money and make your bets. We'll know the answer soon.

Best regards,
Burt
