Yousef:

<< Why does AMD need to use refrigeration to hit the 400mhz mark. This mark seems very easy for Intel ??!!>>

I posted that 400MHz K6-3D article for those who are interested in it. The project was performed by Kryotech, not AMD. Kryotech published and demoed the prototype at Cebit, not AMD.

<< Why does AMD need to use refrigeration to hit the 400mhz mark. This mark seems very easy for Intel ??!!>>

If I remembered correctly Intel demoed a PII-450MHz WATER COOLED at Comdex. Water cooled is not what you sell to customers. Up to date only PII-333MHz is available for sale not 450MHz.

<<Remember the old saying: "Those who don't learn from the past, are doomed to repeat it" !! I'm just trying to help you not feel like "the south end of a horse headed north" !! >>

Yousef your technical ability is good but you lack of vision. Don't you see already that Intel IS NO LONGER THE ONLY COMPUTER OUT IN THE MARKET! AMD is winning acceptance BIG and FAST! AMD didn't have to spend BILLIONS of dollars to advertise their K6 and yet outsell the PII in the last few months at the retailer level (not business buying). AMD didn't have to show their bunnies at the SuperBowl. Mass consumers are getting smarter. They read PC magazines, cyberchat with their friends, and talk to the experts about computers. They are buying the most bang for the bucks. K6 may not be the fastest compared with Intel fastest parts but CONSUMERS FEEL K6 ARE GOOD ENOUGH FOR THEIR POCKET.

K6 is a big success for AMD. Three years ago they were almost extinct. Intel should have killed them long ago by rolling out faster and better CPUs. Instead they sat on the ivory tower, harassed their OEMs, and milked the market with their expensive Pentium for 5 years.
Look what happened to them now. CPQ and IBM are bitting back in a big way. Well those glory days for INTC are long gone thanks to AMD and Cyrix. Now people can afford to buy a powerful K6 and 686MX for less than $1000. INTC is still living in the past. They think consumers will buy everything they make, even the Covington. Wake up man. This is the late 90s almost the year 2000. AMD has turned the corner. They are here to stay. Their high yield and small geometry on the 0.25um will allow them to compete with Intel aggressively.

Re: Kryotech

From the article: "KryoTech's patented, environmentally friendly cooling system increases the performance of standard computer chips 30 to 35% by cooling the devices to minus 40 degrees Celsius."

This is all meaningless. Do the math. The K6-3D involved was a 300 mhz chip. Why would AMD give Kryotech anything faster? After all, it was a Kryotech demo.
