Maffei said it was because of the "general uncertainty in the market" (whatever that means), and because the results significantly exceeded published analyst estimates The "uncertaintly" comment is especially strange since this departure from previous practice is disconcerting in itself. There were also several questions about slowing PC growth, which Maffei said they expected but were not yet seeing. Maybe that was the key, the unusual combination of Intel projecting and feeling lower PC growth and MSFT not feeling it yet.
