It's more likely that a specific salesperson and their sales manager is used discount as carrot to buy before end of quarter. That's a basic sales tactic for any software company.

And, if they only had to discount a measly $42.5K on an $800K contract that is a very positive sign (of course we don't know how much discount was already built into the $800K number).
