We're in denial because the keep throwing us a bit to hang on.

''Based upon our current outlook we believe that our second quarter net sales should rebound sharply from the severely depressed level of the first quarter. Intense pricing pressures arising from an excess supply of disk media, however, will dampen the positive effects of higher unit sales in the second quarter. While our second quarter financial results should improve on a sequential basis, we currently expect to report a net loss in the second quarter ending June 28, 1998,'' said Stephen C. Johnson, president and chief executive officer of Komag, Incorporated.

Anyway, it's not so simple. The whole premise of share price is built on some mysterious mixture of greed and fear. It's not rational. At the moment, people have no fear, but a high amount of greed. Makes what should be an obvious short, turn into a trap.

Regards,

Mark

Can you see four dead bodies in tech?

No, but I can see one dead body from many different angles. The distinction is that we have had the problems in the PC industry ripple through many different companies, from the retailer all the way through the semiconductor equipment companies.

What has caused the PC problem, or is it really a problem at all? My feeling all along has been that this has been a normal inventory correction exacerbated by the problem in Asia. If I am right, then the skies will clear and that dead body will turn out to have been someone taking a nap in the warm sun. Can you do the resurrection shuffle?

Off topic to Lawrence. Since you seem very up on the new Intel BX chip set, do you know how soon it will be available and whether it will only be with 350 MH plus (in other words, expensive)? Does it still appear there will be little performance improvement? Spoke to a computer assembler locally who said he thought the hot setup today was a 300 MH Pentium II with a dual processor motherboard (extra $125) so that a second 300 MH chip could be added when they became cheap. Any thoughts? Also, does anyone know when Win 98 will be released?
