About ASND being bought by CSCO or LU - forget it. I think
CSCO realizes consolidation is the way to go in networking, but
they are talking about snapping up the little guys who are just
happy that CSCO is willing to talk to them. They have learned
their lessons from ASND (with CSCC) and COMS (with USR)
NOT to bite off more than you can chew. LU has also taken this
strategy by acquiring little-known companies without the bloated
stock prices. Both have hefty cash in the bank and a hefty stock
price to match making a stock swap offer likely. I originally
thought LU would buy ASND because it would give them instant
credibility and presence in a broad range of network products.
But, after selling my shares yesterday, and thinking objectively
about it, they are (have been) going through companies by
piecemeal, acquiring very SPECIFIC technologies. I will not tell
you who I have in mind, since my orders are still open, but it isn't ASND. CSCO will not buy ASND because of product overlap.
ASND definitely has turned around after digesting CSCC, and its
niche in ISPs is something CSCO wants to compete with, NOT
buy. Growth in networking is cyclical, and competition is getting
fiercer with LU and NT. Have been hearing a lot of deals made by
NT recently. ALOT. They might acquire ASND before CSCO and
LU, giving them instant presence in the U.S. Just a few of my
thoughts on subject. Good luck ASND longs. I'll be watching
closely hoping to pick it back up before earnings. Just the little
shakiness today in market told me to start closing out a few big
cap positions.
