Mark my words: Office will be casualty #1 unless and until they decide they want to give it away for a song (something other than I'm In the Money) they will be swept aside for Java-based office suites which run anywhere, anytime on anything that supports Java

Rod,

Office is in no immediate danger from Java-based products. While I'm no Microsoft fan, the reality is that were are months, if not YEARS, from seeing a Java-based product that will pose even the slightest threat to Office. Office is well-established and will not go away overnight, even IF a significant challenge is put forth. But to date, there is not a Java-based offering that is anywhere near Office.

These changes take a very, very long time to happen, and you have to have a superior product to make it happen. There are still many, many copies of WP5.1 in use today; it is certanly going to be a while before Office is displaced. Oh, yes, why would anyone use the Java competition, anyway (that is, once there IS meaningful competition?).

Anyway, MSFT is not in immediate danger in any sense (like for the next few decades). They have money o'plenty so who cares about the product line. As to your selling it short, go ahead. That's a smart move....
