Christine, I wasn't angry at all. Sarcastic, yes.
You clearly are adamant that some of other people's religious beliefs bother you, and that is what I was pointing out. In one post, you made reference after reference after reference to the idea that conservative Christians are "hateful and intolerant", simply because they have a religious belief that homosexual behavior is sinful.
I'm not clear why someone elses religious beliefs should bother you, but you clearly are obsessed by this subject. Further, you refuse to acknowledge that society as a whole, both religious and non-religious alike have always been uncomfortable with the clearly unnatural state of homosexuality. That does not mean that, for instance, conservative Christians who view homosexuality as wrong by their religious beliefs hate homosexuals, any more than they hate adulterers and alcoholics. Each behavior is in the realm of what they believe to be "wrong".
I HAVE A CATHOLIC HUSBAND, AND MANY CHRISTIAN FRIENDS. WHAT THEY ALL HAVE IN COMMON IS THAT THEY ARE TOLERANT PEOPLE WHO DO NOT JUDGE OR LOOK DOWN UPON PEOPLE FROM OTHER RACES OR RELIGIONS, OR CONSIDER HOMOSEXUALITY A SINFUL STATE. IT IS INTOLERANCE AND IGNORANCE WHICH REPEL ME, NOT RELIGIOUS PEOPLE PER SE.
So in other words, you don't mind religious people as long as their beliefs conform to yours. Have you considered, Christine, that Mormons (someone correct me if I'm wrong) believe that smoking cigarettes is "wrong", according to their religious beliefs? They may actually disapprove of smokers. Does that "repel" you? Do you lay awake at night thinking how bigoted those Mormons are for thinking smoking is a sin? If you are repelled that from my religious beliefs hold that homosexuality is a sin, then you know what? That's just to bad. Get over it, because I'm not changing my religion to suit you. My beliefs are for ME, not for YOU.
I have stated again and again that I agree with our US Constitution, which says that humans have "certain inalienable rights, among them being life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness". Yet, some people would have some individuals to have special rights, among those being women, racial minorities, veterans, Vietnam era veterans, handicapped people, etc. Many government agencies actually give out "points" depending on a persons status. Healthy white males start out with zero points and end with zero points. Others in the above mentioned catagories start out with zero and end up with more than others, and so they are hired before those with less points. I don't think this is very fair, but I have dealt with it by looking for work other places.
IN OTHER WORDS, AS LONG AS I AM NOT SOMEHOW INFLICTING PAIN ON PEOPLE
Did you support gender, racial, veteran, and handicapped people quotas for hiring in the workplace?
If so, then you have inflicted pain on me. Maybe I should be calling you an intolerant bigot for your beliefs, which you should keep to yourself.
The bottom line here Christine, is most people are tired of this favortism towards certain "special" groups, and I for one don't like the idea that I may be passed up for hiring simply because I'm NOT gay. So if I support a law which forbids giving special status to homosexuals as a "minority" group, that does NOT make me a bigot. It simply means I believe in a level playing field for all.
If someone is passed over for hiring at any time because they are homosexual, a woman, a Christian, a Jew, a Moslem, a Buddist, a Mexican, an Asian, a Caucasian, etc., then that's wrong, and the party with the grievance should be able to seek redress through the courts.
You will NEVER get anyone else to change their religious beliefs, so you may as well forget it. I will no sooner conform to your beliefs than you will conform to mine.
re (again) and I think they were treated horrendously by the Christians for hundreds of years.
What I was getting at in my reply, is why keep harping on things that happened hundreds of years ago? What's the point, besides putting yourself up on a pedestal with a pointing finger? Nobody living today is responsible for what people did hundreds of years ago. Nobody here is supporting pogroms against the Jews or anybody else, so why bring it up, except that you can link "Christians" with "treated horrendously by the Christians"?
You do clearly love to talk about Christians and "horrible, offensive, repulsive, etc", which is the main theme I was pointing out in my prior post. You love to stereotype, which itself is a form a discrimination. Grow up. |
