Carl,

"The forgiveness he extends to Mr. Clinton is a personal forgiveness, assuming the charges are true in whole or in part. It is not a statement on what the response of judicial system should be.<<

It would have been helpful if Dr. Graham had made that most essential differentiation at the time. Evangelical Christians would have probably accepted his "forgiveness" on that basis, but the majority of those watching his interview probably do not share or understand his view of Christian forgiveness. I hope he makes an effort to clarify this point as publicly as he did his original statements.

The secular definition of forgive: To cease to feel resentment against; to give up a claim on account of; to grant remission of an offense, debt, fine, or penalty; to pardon; to free from the consequences of an injurious act or crime.

I'm afraid the above definition is the context that the majority of people view forgiveness, and therefore, think Dr. Graham's comments were extremely ill advised, for as we all surely know, when one commits crimes or injurious acts, there most certainly are consequences. bp

Billy is old, tired and suffers from a chronic illness. Jerry Ford and Barry Goldwater have both repeatedly embarrassed themselves under similar conditions. In fact, the only time they seem to make the news is when they say something outrageously asinine.

Billy tried to undo his "Today" logorrhea in a NY Times Op-Ed a week or two ago. Did you read it? I did.

To me it was pure sophistry.

While you may not agree with Mr. Graham in the way he framed his comments, we would request that you pray for him.

Pray for whom? Which Billy? Waht about? Why?
