TSO:

That's a very good point. I had realized that PC DVD could lead the consumer DVD market but I did not know the details of mixing the two formats here so I just kept quiet. Besides if the cards that I've seen for the current TV on a PC are any indication, those cards would likely be quite expensive - not of super mass market appeal just quite yet.

Then again the PC and the TV are converging. Soon the Set Top Box market should have DVDs in the gadgets (just guessing?) and those DVDs would have to be compatible with the PC version so that leaves DIVX out in the cold.

There thanks to your prodding and Moonray's numbers (heck if there was confusion and only 350k DVD players have sold, even though that is a small number, adding DIVX to the mix in a best case scenario for DIVX, should slow "both" down - therefore both are dead in the consumer area and DIVX won't succeed... (bogus thinking)) I now feel better!

Interestingly re: CDs I would think that the consumer market led the PC market - with DVDs the PC market would lead the consumer market.

Now is LSI a formidable PC DVD competitor? Let's hope. I am getting a bit concerned about the lack of big name announcements. Then again we know LSI never announces much! So maybe the silence is to be expected.
