Hey, Wizard... Oh We of little faith --- hardly had we begun to discuss the tremendous prospects for DVD than everyboy and his brother and sister realized that LSI was a GREAT buy..{{ But heck, the Most Magnificent Mystic, the wonderous E! had already pointed upward, so where's the surprise <gg)?}} (( And, BTW, more than a week ago, she predicted a price of 44 for this run on PSUN..and that was 9 points back..and it hit: Ta Da!: 44! --I cease to even get surprised anymore !)) But back to LSI and DVD... Seems to me, Toshiba is going to have an endless number of these PC DVD's out there in consumer hands shortly, before there is even a marketing arrangement for DIVX.. Next point...when DIVX comes out, who will know what the heck they are talking about??...Nobody buys a disk that gives them a rental, and then it self-destructs or whatever the darned thing does (scrambles, I think)..How to they explain that to the public? But all that advertising is going to help sell DVD players, don't you think? Back in January (Jan 12, Page 89) Business Week did a small article on DVD entitled "Mixed Signals on DVDs" which pointed out that DVD is the best you can do for sound and graphics on a conventional TV (If HDTV is going to cost $8k per set, we may not have one in every room in the house for months). But 300,000 DVD players were sold in Japan during 1997, and a start was made in the US. Toshiba said they were not worried, because "The sales level that it took audio CDs three years to reach were achieved by DVD in less than a year" Now Toshiba and Matushita(Panasonic) are placing DVD products into the biggest rental stores in Japan...and they predict that DVD could go rental in the US as well. But in any case, they say "DVD sales are very promising" So maybe we are too impatient? tSO // But I am even more interested in the "Everything in oNe Box" concept that you have been mentioning for quite some time. Seems that more an more of that are happening...so perhaps the Wiz was onto a trend REALLY early...TSO//
