TSO:

Yes the lack of a presence in what should be a big market for cable set top boxes would not be good for LSI.

I do not know what LSI's thinking is. They have a strong presence in Satellite STBs - why not parlay that strength into cable STBs?

The thing I could not understand is why those guys from Brocade et al are reinventing the wheel. I did not read the GI release entirely but I think it was either there or somewhere else that I read that they were going to *start work* putting the various pieces together. Well doesn't LSI have the full thing already done (the Integra)?

Maybe this is one of those techie things as to why GI is trying to reinvent the wheel here unless I'm missing something obvious.

Or as RFF suggested the pricing may be too competitive for LSI to bother. LSI seems to emphasize profits and that's likely a good thing - they don't seem to do deals that won't give them a fair return on their investment.

Later on perhaps LSI gets in. But later on may be too late since there are many companies eyeing the STB market.
