Duncan,

Au Contraire! Senator Feinstein, a former mayor of San Francisco and during a very troubled time at that, is highly regarded in the SF Bay area among conservatives and liberals alike. She did debate Governor Pete Wilson, a far more formidable and literate opponent that Mike Huffington, I think. Many think also that she was the clear victor in those debates, even though Wilson won the gubernatorial election. Many local and national political pundits believe Senator Feinstein has a good shot at higher political office.

Smarter than Feinstein, who was smart enough to refuse to debate him.

Not really. He DID lose, after all. And then went on TV to whine about how it really wasn't FAIR, and the election had been STOLEN. Made an utter fool of himself. Probably Arianna's idea; I rather doubt he's ever had any, even bad ones.

Duncan, Holly is correct about Feinstein. She is widely respected in California, by both Democrats and Republicans. She is a social liberal, but seems to favor the interests of the business community as well, and that is a pretty popular combination out here.

She was a supervisor when twinkie-crazed Dan White tried to gun down all his enemies at City Hall. It was very traumatizing for Dianne--she watched people die, as I recall, and immediately became mayor. She really showed a lot of leadership, guiding San Franciscans through a very disturbing time. She has been an excellent, hard-working senator. Even people who totally disagree with her politics admire her general integrity.

Really, Michael Huffington is an absolute joke around here.
