Off or is it On Topic??

Wedgie:

I agree. This board has been, and I hope will be, more than some sterile environment for posting 'just the facts, ma'am.' I think the pathos of the Beeble, the catscratching fever of Lisa, the unbelievable commitment(to NE) of LT, the well-thought posts of Baird, the excitement of diamond h. . .

I've got to stop -- been called to go eat seafood.

>>>Regarding the numerous posts attempting to keep us "on topic"<<< You won't get flamed by me. I agree completely.

sand,
While it may be fun to have all kinds of diverse posts, the number of them on a busy thread like this makes it cumbersome to find on-topic news and commentary. Perhaps it is time to reincarnate the possibility of more than one thread. I'd be up for one dealing with fundamentals and news, perhaps another for TA and price monitoring of the OSX and maybe a third for chat. As much as people might prefer and "all for one and one for all" approach, I think splitting the discussion might make it easier for people to participate in those parts of the discussion they are most up for and doing without the rest. As one who sometimes has to wade through hundreds of posts after being away, I find it frustrating to be slowed down by the volume of off-topic posts.
The big advantage of a separate fundamentals and news or a news only thread is that it is much faster and easier to locate these items without having to wade through so many sidetracks.

Wedgie,

1) I hung out on a thread (AMTX) for a couple of years...that had over 30000 posts many of them with the same fervor, humor, and information flow as here, much junk too. Personally, I am used to large volume reading, and nothing has changed for me. AMTX was purchased by TXN, so that thread is a shell of it's former self.

2) I agree with your post. On AMTX, we tried somewhat successfully to help readers that didn't want to wade through all the stuff by using the top line of the comment like a subject line, and then proceeding with content from there. We also used OT, EOM, etc to help speed things along. We use these here.

If you don't stay with this, I also agree, you will come back to more posts than you have time for. Thean and/or Lucretius used to do summary posts for the day or week, and that would be nice to help readers get back in after a business trip, or vacation.

I like the spirit of this thread, it's great, and I've learned a ton, and hopefully contributed to other learning some things too.

REgards,
