Most of Silicon Valley is instituting an early close to the quarter - any quarter. Software companies are notorious for 11th hour scrambles to get orders booked on the final day. I've seen several companies now use an earlier close date such as the last Friday before month's end to ensure that there are no instances "of giving away the farm". Gartner's Rule will have little impact on the more sophisticated software companies. Locking out discounting once numbers have been met is a serious hint to the financial market of expectations attained or failed...

Well, I'll just wait until next quarter to buy then! This seems a little self-defeating and not the norm in the software business as others' in this thread have stated. I had breakfast with our CEO last week and he had to apologize for bringing the cell phone. :-)

I added VNTV to an online portfolio I use for my watch list, and the darned thing is up 45% already. I hate that!
