If Mr. Bennett had kept his big yap shut (he told the press she was not a credible witness), Ms. Tripp would probably have never been motivated to make the tapes in the first place. A basic law of our universe is that for every action there is an equal and oppostie reaction. It's kind of like the Gary Hart thing. When you challenge someone to prove something which is obviously true(Clinton is an unprincipled liar and womanizer) , eventually someone will find a way. JLA

Duncan, I thought this column was well written. Gloria Borger is a respected journalist, often seen on the PBS program, This Week in Washington.

One of the things I found curious this week, mentioned both in Time and U.S. News and World Report, is that privately Clinton's aides admit that there was an some kind of a sexual incident with Kathleen Willey. They simply claim it was consensual. I cannot figure out whether this is damage control(their best strategy),the truth, or whether the administration has so much confidence in Clinton's Teflon-like qualities that they assume consensual sex outside of his marriage no longer offends anyone at all.
