Phantom 266MHz K6:

pricewatch.com

Now there are 8 companies offering K6-266MHz 0.25um version. Man where are these "phantom" K6 come from? They are appearing everywhere in the theatre near you. The price is also dropping too. It was at $325 and now you can get it for $301. Hmm, either SDC is really cranking out more wafers or FAB25 is mass producing 0.25um "phantom" K6. What do you guys think? Buy or sell AMD? I would venture to say that we will get a short squeeze soon.

Maxwell - Re: "Intel made the 0.35um before they had the 0.25um version working. The 450MHz 0.35um was non saleable type, just experimental parts. "

That is generally the case - making parts on the older technology while the new technology is being developed.

That is an excellent reason to remember that Intel demonstrated a 700 MHz Deschutes/Pentium II (0.25 micron) at CeBIT - externally water cooled, of course.

As Intel's 0.18 micron process is in the final stages of development, next year should see Pentium II's that run at 700 MHz with conventional air-cooling.
