dumbmoney,

<< Do you believe the PC100 interface is trivial for DRAM manufacturers with current fabs...or possibly another round of upgrades is a necessity? >>

No doubt there will be a modest premium for these devices in the short run. I don't think it will be very significant - keep in mind that only the top end PCs will use these things initially.

The premium of PC100 over PC66 is not the issue, but rather, is the complexity and cost of PC100 going to impact current DRAM manufacturers and will that limit those who will be able to stay in the game b/c of costly upgrades? Another words, Is the the new technology memory hurting other companies more than MU?

As far as "only top end PCs using this memory initially" that is very true in 1998, but far from accurate in 1999...and that is where the issue resides. PC100 will be the norm in 1999. just as PC66 was the norm for past few years. Even the Socket 7 motherboards will be PC100 compatible this year and be the norm next year.
