C6+ and AMD K6-3D agreed on a FPU instruction set for floating point transforms. Microsoft will support them with the DX7 release of DirectX. What is great about this is it will be out ahead of Intel's FP acceleration - MMX2 - that will premier with Katmai in early 99.

Referring to some earlier posts regarding IDT's ownership of QED, that 40% number is not accurate. While it may have been at one time, QED has recently raised VC money. As with any new raising of money, there was dilution and IDT will own much less. However, the MIPs business is in the noise compared to the potential for the C6 business. Mips business is so bad that SGI is getting out of it by spinning it into a separate company. A small company like QED can make some money, but the numbers are just not interesting.
