Are you really Scott McPeely or is it Bill Grates? Microsoft shills are welcome because the absurdity of their arguments only serves to highlight the shortcomings of the brittle trash-ware they call COM. Granted, Microsoft has suckered those who don't know any better but there are legions of programers who do.

>>>No, the failure rate of software projects cannot be blamed on Bill
Gates because why would so many companies be dumping Unix in favor of
NT if the Unix hardware vendors were delivering the goods?

The real issue here is two entirely different philosophies, Unix and
Javabeans being programmer centric versus Windows and COM+ being user
centric. Custom programming versus shrink wrap.

Most programmers like the big bucks they can make by delivering custom
solutions. A hetergenous environment is ideal for this. So its no
suprise programmers love Java. The Java philosophy promotes either
big IS departments (for programmers who want a life) or lucrative
custom programming because the application needs to be ported,
optimized, etc. because of the inability of "open standards" to
achieve 100% compatability.<<<<

Excuse me, but this seems like complete rubbish. The secret of Java is that it's heterogeneous? COM is user - centric? Java is loved by big IS departments? Programmers love it because they make more money on it? Buwahahahaha (:-) .... What MSFT bullshit-fest have you been attending?

Let me ask you: How much training time do you think naive users are devoting to learning the interface of all those Java applets they use on the Internet? That's right, zero. They probably don't even know it's there. Compared to thousands a year per person for MSFT training of various kinds as they stay trapped in the upgrade mill.

Cheers,
Chaz
