Joseph, Re: "I don't particularly agree that this is a real inflection point. I have a huge admiration for Andy."

Joseph while your awaiting Paul's response may I ask a question?

What do you think would of happened if Compaq listened to Andy, like Dell?

Mr. Jai Singh's article suggest Andy made the mistake by not listening to Compaq. I suggest that is one sided.

Thank you,

TTOSBT

It's my understanding that Compaq, Cyrix and AMD are losing money in the <$1000 market.

So isn't it wise for Intel to go into that market only when they are confident that they can make a profit?

Hi Joseph. In regards to the Dell comments, I have seen $699 "subzero" pcs selling from local screwdriver shops. These have 233's, 32 MB and monitors. If 32 MB is selling for $50 retail (I have seen as low as $40), how much would it have to rise in order for the "frenzy" to dry up. Do you personally believe that DRAM prices will rise (and stay higher for a sustained period)?

Michael Dell said IF DRAM prices pick up. If DRAM were to pick up for a nanosecond, MU and the Koreans would open the floodgates. Regardless, Dell has benefitted from dropping component prices vis a vis the other boxmakers, because of the BTO model. Rising component prices will have the opposite effect. Was he sweating when he said this? -g-
