From what I have seen, I see two major areas of difference:

yes, i agree there will be large differences in the level of support.
Informix seems to have a sizable lead.

i believe oracle will jettison CORBA for data cartridges and a have a more datablade-like architecture. they will dynamically load extensions written in c/c++ into the running DBMS -- or be destroyed w.r.t. performance. i.e. they will subscribe to the "madness".
