Take a look at SCON, it is huge run-up today!

Here is the news:

Tuesday March 31, 9:01 am Eastern Time
Company Press Release
Superconductor Technologies Announces Planned Field Trials With More Than 20 Wireless Carriers
New Orders For SuperFilter System Also Announced
SANTA BARBARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 31, 1998-- Superconductor Technologies Inc. (Nasdaq:SCON - news), a leader in the development of wireless communications filter products utilizing superconducting materials and cryogenic technologies, Tuesday announced that it has scheduled field trials of its SuperFilter system with more than 20 different wireless carriers, which include eight of the top 10 cellular service providers in the United States.

These trials will be conducted at more than 25 cellsites during the next four months.

STI also announced that it had received orders for 15 SuperFilter systems in the first quarter of 1998, giving it a backlog of 23 systems at quarter end. The majority of the backlog will be shipped during the second quarter of 1998. Additionally, revenues for commercial products for the first quarter of 1998 are expected to exceed commercial revenues realized during the entire year of 1997.

According to M. Peter Thomas, president and chief executive officer of STI, ''Interest by carriers in our superconducting filter technology is increasing rapidly as our customers see more and more evidence of its capabilities to solve problems of range and call quality that are becoming ever more important as competition increases.

''We believe the trials and orders are an indication that this technology is being accepted by the wireless industry and that the major issue now is how quickly usage will grow. The ultimate market growth now becomes a matter of execution by us, the superconducting industry. In that regard, I am very pleased with the progress STI is making in its marketing and manufacturing programs,'' he said.

James P. Simmons Jr., vice president of sales and marketing, stated: ''We are encouraged by the number of field trials which have been scheduled during the first quarter. Our sales force, which was established at the beginning of the year, has made significant progress with cellular service providers, especially in penetrating the top 10 domestic providers.

''This strong interest reflects the substantial performance improvements offered by our system in a practical usable platform. During two recent field trials, tests have shown the potential to increase revenues by more than 30 percent per cellsite with the SuperFilter system,'' he added.

Superconductor Technologies is a leader in the development of wireless communications filter products utilizing superconducting materials and cryogenic technologies. The company has additional applications in the high-speed computing, medical and government communications markets.

With headquarters in Santa Barbara, Superconductor Technologies designs and manufactures systems for high-performance wireless applications.
