David, you're on the right track. If anyone else feels as we do, that the free trial memberships have lowered the level of discourse on SI, then please contact them and make yourself heard. The SI founders have always been very responsive to its membership and they have implemented several suggestions of mine in the past. As a founding member of SI, I learned early on that SI was head and shoulders above the other discussion sites. I like to think that SI is a stock discussion forum for professionals who are participants (and sometimes leaders) in their industry, as well as for fellow shareholders who usually have something worthwhile to say and contribute to the thread in a sharing, polite manner. The recent increase in immature rants/comments and other noise has been distracting and disappointing.

Jill responded immediately to my email:

>>Thanks... I'll forward this to Jeff and Brad, SI's co-founders.

Subject: Free trial period access

Hello,

I know that SI is only trying to increase their subscriber count by offering the free trial period, but I have to let you know how negatively this has affected several of the threads I follow.

The level of communication has dropped to that of AOL's Motley Fool, or even worse, YAHOO's stock boards. I cannot tell you how many posts I am reading on popular companies where posters have resorted to name calling, immature or naive statements with no facts to back them up, blind cheerleading or slamming stocks.

This is exactly why I don't use any other stock discussion boards. Letting in "the masses" means the level of discourse will inevitably drop to the lowest common denominator. I know I have personally recommended SI to many friends and associates as a place where professionals frequent and back up their statements with knowledge of their industries and facts. Yes, I know SI has a policy prohibiting posts which are in violation of the rules, but who has time to police the threads?

Don't you think you should consider the possibility that by opening up SI to anyone who wants to casually "drop in", that you are diluting the inherent value of SI to your current subscribers? SI has stood high and above every other forum for investors that I have used, and I think chiefly because of its discriminating membership.

Sincerely,
D. Kuspa<<

* On SI promo:
It is annoying to see the volume of posts up greatly with most of the increase as mere noise. It diminishes the value of SI to investors.

My suggestion to SI is to offer a trial $5 per month membership that can be converted to full membership at any time with full credit for previous SI payments.

* On AAPL:
It appears that we are in another holding pattern centered on 27 3/8 like yesterday's hold at 27 11/16. Do we expect another sell program to slam the stock into the 26's? Volume is still slight.

* Another off topic:
Anyone here familiar with Superconductor Tech. [NASDAQ: SCON]? It came on my radar yesterday with news about trials with 20 cellular services vendors. Currently at 5 1/8. I'm wondering how long the hold might be to see another upside swing. Anyone know anything?

Good hunting,
HerbVic

Don't be such a snob David.I've been a member since '96,and they don't bother me.As for discouraging us shorts from posting,too bad.Last time I checked this is still America and the first amendment hasn't been appealed.This stock has hit the proverbial 'wall'.I'll entertain any wagers that we see 25 before 30.Any takers?
