David, you're on the right track. If anyone else feels as we do, that the free trial memberships have lowered the level of discourse on SI, then please contact them and make yourself heard. The SI founders have always been very responsive to its membership and they have implemented several suggestions of mine in the past. As a founding member of SI, I learned early on that SI was head and shoulders above the other discussion sites. I like to think that SI is a stock discussion forum for professionals who are participants (and sometimes leaders) in their industry, as well as for fellow shareholders who usually have something worthwhile to say and contribute to the thread in a sharing, polite manner. The recent increase in immature rants/comments and other noise has been distracting and disappointing. Jill responded immediately to my email: >>Thanks... I'll forward this to Jeff and Brad, SI's co-founders. The level of communication has dropped to that of AOL's Motley Fool, or even worse, YAHOO's stock boards. I cannot tell you how many posts I am reading on popular companies where posters have resorted to name calling, immature or naive statements with no facts to back them up, blind cheerleading or slamming stocks. This is exactly why I don't use any other stock discussion boards. Letting in "the masses" means the level of discourse will inevitably drop to the lowest common denominator. I know I have personally recommended SI to many friends and associates as a place where professionals frequent and back up their statements with knowledge of their industries and facts. Yes, I know SI has a policy prohibiting posts which are in violation of the rules, but who has time to police the threads? Don't you think you should consider the possibility that by opening up SI to anyone who wants to casually "drop in", that you are diluting the inherent value of SI to your current subscribers? SI has stood high and above every other forum for investors that I have used, and I think chiefly because of its discriminating membership. Sincerely, D. Kuspa<<
