Did Osicom say the teaming partner would be named within 30 days of last CC (3-5-98)? That would leave them a few days to announce. I sure hope they come out with a good, heavyweight partner that can open some doors that Osicom cannot seem to get near on it's own.

<< The metro is ciena's answer to the gigamux not the firefly. >>

What a crock. Now all of a sudden the Firefly doesn't compete with the Gigamux? (Your right they don't compete but that's because the Gigamux is a bunch of hype).

FIBR would have you believe that their super Gigamux can do short-haul, long haul, and everything inbetween. "Just add a power booster". Sounds like something you add to your Sparkomatic stereo. A 7 band EQ with 30 watt booster amp. FIBR loves to point out that the Giga can serve so many different markets, then CIEN wins an order and all of a sudden FIBR fans say the Firefly doesn't compete with that product.

You can't have it both ways. If your going to say that Osicom's WDM doesn't compete with the Firefly then you need to take about $10 billion in market opportunities away from FIBR. That's the market potential that the Firefly is said to address.

Robert,

Please re-read Tbone's posts again(about three posts back). WE ARE TALKING ABOUT DIFFERENT PRODUCTS. The metro is ciena's answer to the gigamux not the firefly. The metro will be coming out in the 2nd half and it has not been tested by any independent labs so far(at least to my knowledge).

When did the Gigamux start narrowing its target market? Are you saying that Osicom couldn't nor wouldn't like to have had the contract Ciena just got? I think Ciena is using various products to center in on the short-haul market, while Osicom is using one product to cover the whole market. Looks like Ciena is winning.

All I'm saying is that Osicom is not alone in the short-haul market.
