Hi David! Remember Apple and Microsoft? Which one was acknowledged to have the superior technology? Where are they today? Also, maybe we shoudn't jump to the conclusion that the test was accurate. The following post was made on "messages from yahoo": First: Mr. Poretz is a "Principal of an investor relations firm that counts e-Net among its clients" You can deduct your own conclusions about impartiality... Second: The methodology explanation is not clear. I have some doubts about it. I am not doubting the objectivity of LAN Times but rather their test environment. Third: Excerpts from the ETEL product review: "Installation was not really complex, thanks to good documentation, but it required diligence. " "In other words, voice and data travel together over the same network from the workstation. Unfortunately, this provides a single point of failure for both networks at the workstation level. This also highlights an important installation issue" And I found the same distressing comments that the T2000 product runs over "IP, ethernet, ATM, etc...) and the VOCLFs product only runs over IP". That is an uninformed and misleading statement as ethernet, ATM, frame relay are lower level transport layers that carry IP. "Unfortunately, we were never able to actually make a call from the Telecom 2000 to the VocalTec Telephony Gateway...For example, the Telecom 2000 uses a proprietary echo-cancellation scheme...You should be aware that the Telecom 2000 lacks interoperability" (VOCALTEC IS A LEADER ON STANDARDIZATION) "You can use Telecom 2000 as your sole PBX system, or you can use the system in conjunction with an existing PBX" (GATEWAYs FOR CARRIERS IS THE MARKET, NOT PBXs) contiuing: If this post contains accurate information it raises serious questions about the validity of the test. Also, before we panic let's wait for VocalTec's explanantion. In addition, even if etel's technology has some features that are temporarliy slightly better, with an enormous head start, VocalTec has the resoureces to easily take care of that. Last, I repeat, remember what happened to Apple and Microsoft. Which one would you have bet on back then? Kindest regards, Don Walster
