From briefing.com Computer Systems & Peripherals Brief: When the disk drive related stocks all rose in response to last week's earnings warning from Quantum, we noted that the behavior signalled that a trading bottom had been put in place... Seagate, Hutchinson and Applied Magnetics were highlighted as the stocks exhibiting the must improved technical underpinnings... Yesterday, disk drive stocks powered higher once again, with SEG, HTCH and APM rising by another 5.7%, 6.6% and 4.9%, respectively... Quantum, which was similarly featured as the safest place for early bargain hunting, rallied 9.4%. Western Digital, which jumped 11% yesterday on volume of 5.4 mln shares, nearing pivotal resistance at 20 7/16... Penetration of this ceiling would target a move back to 24-25 area... Fundamentally, inventory problems remain and price competition is intense... However, street convinced that worst of problems now behind the group... Looking forward to late '98 and a pick up in earnings growth... Risks remain high , as street badly missed earnings estimates going into inventory correction .
