Expansion of the "Greater Fool Theory" -

The greater fool theory claims that there will be newer future "fools" to throw money at the stocks we have already paid too much for. This theory has been in existence for many, many years, but in the past this theory never had to deal with the internet, and the one-click online trading phenomenon currently underway. When I hear ads for online brokers, whose customers say "with XYZ online brokerage, I was able to trade options online in my margin account and profit to the tune of $12,000 in 2 days", I begin to get very worried. When the generally uneducated investing public views these ads expounding nothing more than the click of a mouse and the $$$'s roll in, I think IMO that it's time for the SEC to look into these deceitful and misleading pronouncements geared toward the naive and vulnerable investor. They will eventually be proven to be the greater fools.
