I am sure this is at least partly wrong, and believe it is massively incorrect:

Great Britan went through hell during the depression, much as we did. The difference was, the 20s weren't so great there either, so the difference wasn't huge. Germany went through hell as well, until it started its own goverment spending program much earlier than the rest of the world. The Nazi military buildup, beginning with the first interstates and ending with full war production, starting in the mid 30s. Latin America was generally bankrupted. France was in bad shape. Etc., etc.
