James and Bob,

<<I have always been told that this could happen just before the first 3 1/2 years of the rule of the beast when all is peace and safety but this appears to be just before the world ruler changes his stripes and murders the two witnesses. >>

Very interesting topic, anyone want to venture who the two witness might be? Or whether they may be alive right now. -Chris

James,
Some people think the letters in Revelation are for the church in different times in history. If that were true then the first letters would be spaced over many hundreds of years and the last two would be just a few years apart. I stay open to learning more about the letters.

My bible says this about the letters:
" Revelation begins with letters addressed by the Lord to seven actual churches of the apostolic age which were typical of the churches of all time. In them He voices His commendation and criticism, concluding with a warning and a promise."

So maybe the Lord chose seven churches to demonstrate traits He both approved of and disapproved of that would be repeated down through the church age until His return.

The apostles expected His second coming to be in their lifetime. As John wrote in his 1st letter 2:18:

"Children, it is the last hour; just as you have heard that anti-christ is coming, even now many anti-christs have arisen; from this we know it is the last hour."

This really puzzles me that John wrote that. Then came the Revelation of John (some say through a different John) some years later and the timing was pushed back? (Sort of like a company who announces a delay in a new product release! <gg>) WOW! Pushed back alright, 2000 years! I guess the Lord did tarry as it was said He might.

I think you know what I think about the timing of the rapture and the second coming. I don't see it happening until after the wheat and the chaff are separated by the taking or refusal to take the mark of the beast which takes place after the 7th trumpet blast (Rev.13) and then the rapture in Rev. 14:14-16. Then the wrath of God is poured out on the rest of humanity that took the mark Rev. 14:17-20. Then we return with the Lord when He defeats His enemies and establishes His Kingdom in Rev. 19 & 20. I think that John saw these visions out of sequence as far as timing and that is the way he recorded them leading to confusion now as to the timing of the events. There is a lot to learn about Revelation.

Have a good one,

Bob
