Mr.G seems to subscribe to, or at least consider, the theory of productivity improvements resulting from improved and increasing use of technology. Stephen Roach, Morgan Stanley economist, has written a fairly long report on this subject and takes a different and interesting view. That report is found at the URL listed below.

Some of his points are valid in that labor productivity can definitely be enhanced with technology, (e.g. using robots on assembly lines); but, productivity at the upper levels may not be so easily boosted except by facilitating longer hours spent with tech tools. If longer hours are spent, then output/unit time is not actually increasing.
