That's particularly insulting and outrageous to think that they helped themselves to the cake and milk. When somebody violates your home and family, I can't think of a punishment that's strict enough. I disagree with the notion that a "duty of care" is owed the burglar. As for precautions, we're getting an alarm system. I'm going to try to convince my wife that we should get a German Shepherd. If that doesn't work, I'll bring one home anyway.
