Craig --

I've watched CIEN for a year and missed it the first time and finally bought my first shares yesterday. I heard them present at the JPMorgan Equities conference a few weeks ago where the speaker said the total size of the market was $2billion right now and they held between 30 to 60%. With the transmission broadband market doubling every 3.6 months, there's enough business for Ciena and LU and whoever else has the technology. For an indication of what telcos are doing to transition into the data market, read today's GTE news:

<<I'm pretty sure QWST is running 8 or 16 channel OC-192 from Nortel.>>

QWST is 16 channels of OC-192 at the present time using Nortel equipment. While the fiber transports 10 Gb/s per wavelength I believe this is composed of 4 muxed channels of 2.5 Gb/s each. These 2.5 Gb/s (STS-48) channels can be added or dropped at various points along the fiber usually at a central office.
