Excerpt from "Dialing Up Dollars", Barrons April 6:

The European economic scenario also buoyed
telecommunications funds such as Montgomery Global
Communications, which climbed 38.7%.

Portfolio manager Oscar Castro says his worst
performer, Portugal Telecom, jumped 24%. And what
was his best performer? Global Telesystems, which
represents 11.6% of the portfolio. The fund bought GTS
for $5 a share through a private placement 3 1/2 years
ago. The shares went public in February and recently
were trading north of 40. GTS is a participant in projects
in Russia and Eastern Europe and is developing a
pan-European communications network with the
Continent's railways.

Castro also owns U.K.-based Colt, up about 120%,
and has a large position in U.S.-headquartered
WorldCom, up 44%. He predicts economic activity in
the Old World is accelerating, which is lovely news for
those multinationals, like WorldCom, that already have a
beachhead there.

I read the BW article, then called a telepsychic.
She told me WCOM was poised to exploit the upcoming IP telephony explosion. Beware of the recent "brain drain" caused by mass exodus of WCOM employees to LVLT. Don't forget to look at those companies that will SURELY benefit from telecom growth, ie equipment providers like LU and NT. Keep a small shrine at home, replete with photos of Bernie, candles burning to illuminate glass fibers, and the latest WCOM quarterly report. Finally she told me that I was the father of a red headed step child (which is true) and too avoid liaisons with tall blond AT&T saleswomen met at Chinese restaurants.
