Roger and Frank: skillful dialogue. talk as much as you like so I can soak up your knowledge. "Gaining momentum on a see-saw," this is the new world of swings...

Roger & Frank.. good discussion! First let me start by saying that I don't think that interest rates are going up any time soon in Japan. Last April the consumption tax was raised from a meager 3% to 5% and there was grumbling when that happened. Second, there is NO INFLATION happening at this moment. A container of milk is the same as it always was! Expensive! Japanese thinking is unaffected by price changes (unless hyper-inflation). Believe it or not, but Japanese buy things without thinking! They buy on impulse. They just do it! You won't believe how many of my friends bought a high end computer ($3,000-4,000 range) when they have NEVER even used a computer before! It's unreal! So if they want CHKPF, then they buy it! They buy it if everyone else is using it! If it is $100 of $1,000, it doesn't matter! It's brand name and product association that matters! Not price!

As for Japan's economy, it is doing just fine within the islands of Japan. But when you get to the bigger picture with International trade and currency, then we see some impact. The average Joe is not affected. I always get a kick out of TV analysts that talk out of their ass when they think they know what is happening in Japan! Truely they don't know sh*t! If they came here to check things out, then they could give a better idea of how Japan really works!
(I am no expert either, but I live here. As for education, I have a degree in Accounting.)

Japan has tons of money sitting in their reserves. The government is just sitting on it. WHY? Conservatism! They want to save it for a real problem. As of now, the only problem they really have is trying to get money back on money they lent out to SEA. That money has already been spent. The government may start to call these countries on their payments. But I doubt it.

Japans big problem right now is the government loosing respect from its own people. Most people are feeling disappointed in the government because of all the recent bad news and broken promises. There really won't be anything exciting happening in Japan for the next few years. And most know that! But they accept it and continue to go to work and buy things! And believe me, Japanese LOVE US PRODUCTS! And will pay anything for them!

On another note, CHKPF is just trading to wildly for me! I will also buy a day or two before earnings. It hasn't failed yet in the last year. These recent swings are just too much! CHKPF should come through on earnings, but that is just my feeling. (I have no backup or proof)

So that's it for me for about a week. I will catch up with you gentlemen rater! :)

Good ruck investing!
