Well, for another thing, the German people will be extremely pissed with anything weaker than a D-Mark. And besides, European is at stake.

But what I think you're really getting after is the disaster that beset the German currency in the waning days of the Weimar Republic.

One thing that is not the same in 1998 as in 1932 - Germany is not being sucked dry by having to pay tribute according to a treaty of Versailles which was controlled by a bloodthirsty and vindictive Clemenceau who prevailed over Lloyd George and Wilson to extract maximum pain from the German people by making its currency worthless and paving the way for Hitler and his gangster buddies.

That's just the first thing I thought of - It really is the question of the decade.

Gold uber alles!! ... Heute Maastricht, morgen die ganze Welt ....

9'er Amen to this: "Those who don't study history are doomed 2 repeat it!" France and Germany do well at history, while the supposed pre-eminent financial mind of our century has failed his Roman History 101 (also failed to head his 29 counterpart who uttered "irrational speculation" in the winter of 29').

A Holy Roman FIATsco ahead.

Ask me about the book I've been reading lately titled "Hitler's Cross". A great history lesson all should learn.
