Gary, I'm not attacking your dd, but this is obviously a losers perspective. Even a company of CSCOs size doesn't walk away from a $140M business opportunity. When hasn't a customer "dragged their feet" when getting ready to spend this kind of money. As for GTE being in the state of confusion, my understanding is that they are one of the most progressive carriers out there, so living on the edge of technology may justify the confusion.

By the way I'm long both CSCO and ASND although more ASND at the moment.

Gary,
You have got to be the king of lame rationalizations. Can't you ever admit that ASND beat Cisco for a contract because they happen to have a better product at the moment. It's ok Cisco will get over it. I have a contact at GTE(project manager), and from the conversations I've had w/him GTE was using Ascend RAC's before and never stopped buying right on through their "partnership" w/cisco. While Cisco was talking about strategies for GTE's "Cisco Powered Network", GTE was installing Asend ATM switches. Cisco is finding out that selling telco is all about performance/cost. Cisco is fighting tooth and nail at every ISP account in North America but they blew off GTE because they were a pain in the ass.
