rrman, It would not surprise me if this rumor (100 billion$ U.S. loan to Japan) becomes reality. It would be classic smoke and mirrors to keep the party going a little longer. Besides it's only "Monopoly" money. However, the most likely and logical scenario will be Japan's liquidation of U.S. bonds and stocks to prevent a meltdown. As Mr. Rogers would say "can you spell market correction."

In the unbelievable but true category, in yesterday's WSJ there was a Q&A session with Alan Greenspan. Concerning American households debt, he stated that they "aren't particularly overburdened." Am I missing something here, I thought that we are at historic levels of debt. He was also asked about Y-2000 crisis, and he responded "The only thing I can say with certainty about the year 2000 is that it will arrive." I have one question for Mr. Greenspan. What planet are you from?

One last thing. The current market wisdom is that the Japanese consumer needs to spend more to prevent a depression in Japan. Think about it. Your currency is getting trashed, banks won't lend, businesses are closing, and there is a major scandal in your Central Bank. Let's say you are an average Japanese saver and you have 100,000$ put away and now these clowns want you to spend it. Yea right. I think I prefer some of that gold stuff instead.

Terry,

rofl--think that the US is just giving them a "crash" course in
banking..the US would probably have riots in the street if they
lent Japan any money..
once the Japanese clear up their banking mess..bet it might be off
to the races..don't understand what they are waiting for..
ps..just checked commodity link next to gold monitor
looked at ftse chart and thought my nose was going to bleed..
also looked at natural gas..analysis says quite bullish
looked at light crude..analysis says long term bullish..
looked at copper..analysis says long term bullish..
wonder when long term bond will reflect these possible trends..
if it does..wonder when DOW will reflect that..

have fun! check the ftse chart..
