Thinking About EGGS...

I'm afraid my rationale on this baby is less RATIONAL
and more gut. However...

* I've just had a huge object lesson in the cost of
doing business on the Web. The efficiencies are
nearly miraculous. Plus, you get into the knowledge-base
business--refining what you know about customers and
honing future offers. The Web, as you know, is marvelous
for this. EGGS has done a very smart thing... getting
out of the brick-and-mortar retail and into a world
of possibilities and opportunities (revenue-sharing,
etc.)

* IMHO, there is not a lot of brand-name competition
in this space. Oh yes, I have heard of software.net... which
is doing deals, etc. (I suspect, we'll all be hearing
more about them in the coming months.) I've also heard of something far
more obscure but interesting called digitalriver.com. But, EGGS has got a good, fairly well established name.
(This may sound a little like neo-Buffett-ism... though
we know Warren wouldn't get anywhere near this one.)

* Been reading up some on EGGS management, and I think
I like their brainpower, boldness of vision, etc. But,
I'm going pretty much on a couple of articles in this
regard. Not much serious DD.

* The trend is our friend, to quote somebody on every
SI thread I've ever visited. However, I spin this to
mean that the trend toward more PC's and more people on
the Web will mean a burgeoning software market... especially in
the budget-conscious category... incomes in the $30's.
I think EGGS could be well-positioned to grab share
there.

* But, I stress, this is an EXPLORATORY one for me.
(This from the guy who's jumping in with both feet into
BIOTECHNOLOGY!? Mein Gott, have I not taken my gingko
biloba supplements? What good have they done me?)

Best Regards,

c m
