Tom- Years ago the drive to Death Valley thru the Panamint Mtns. was a spectacular way to get there if you had a good touring car like your Mk II! I suspect it's all freeway these days. I took my Porsche there Memorial Day weekend in 1962 (Memorial Day is the official end of the season in Death Valley). The guy I was rooming with at the time thought it was hilarious to reach over and honk my car's horn at all the cars stopped at the side of the road with their radiators boiling over. I was embarrassed and hoped I wouldn't have sort of bad karma that caused the fan belt to break on my Porsche! :-) Bruce
