<<Off Topic>>>More Shotgun Opinions

Hi Marc,

"The best solution is to stop the bad guys outside the house."

I sure agree with you there! But what if you fail to keep them out? I think we should recognize the possibility that we may need to defend ourselves against violent attack. Most burglars are non-violent, but there are a few seriously deranged violent people out there.

I think we're in agreement that the chances of needing to shoot someone are small, but if you do Need to, shouldn't you have a gun?

I keep a spare tire, jack, and tools in my car. I hope I never need to change a tire on a dirt road on a rainy night; but I might need to do that. If that situation comes up, it'll be messy; I'll get muddy. I might skin my knuckles.

If some nut breaks into my home intent on rape/murder, I might need to kill him. I hope the situation never comes up, but it might. If that happens, it'll be messy. It'll cost me some money.

Your statement:" Probably a jury would never convict, but take it from a former lawyer (stress former) -- there are no guarantees.

2. If that situation ever arises, you'll be bled dry by lawyers' fees. Even if you win, you lose. And don't forget the civil suit, where the bad guy (or estate) sues for damages...."

This seems to me to imply (perhaps I misinterpret; Please correct me if so.) that the risks of being armed outweigh the advantages.

That seems analogous to saying that I shouldn't carry a spare tire because if I need to use it I'll get muddy and skin my knuckles.

Sometimes getting muddy and skinning knuckles is the very best available option.

On another <<<Off Topic>>> I looked at your profile and saw you put "e-mail address available by private message." I think this is a great idea, and will copy it, if you don't mind.
