RE: Oh Please

SparQ, as you probably know already, has received mostly glowing reviews, and is used by thousands of happy consumers. If you are trying to steer truff into buying a Jaz, remember the problems Iomega has had with its reliability. Several of my graphics co-workers bought Jaz and are very unhappy with them.

One of these guys very recently bought a SCSI Syjet, tried to hook it up to his Starmax Mac clone, and had problems. He never found out if it was an extension conflict with the Iomega driver (or any other extension), or a hardware problem. He told me he returned the SyJet for refund without even trying to get it running when he received bad customer support. He took the Syjet back, and the Jaz now sits collecting dust on a back shelf. He now uses neither Jaz or Syjet. He was so fed up with Jaz that he just up and bought another big external 9 Gig.

Even Roland dropped Jaz as an option in its VS-880 recorder due to its unreliability.

The Castlewood Orb's MR tech should prove very reliable. I just hope that they have learned the lessons that terrible customer support from Iomega and now Syquest can teach.

EP: Nah, I was just gigging Rocky a little. I wanted to get another hard drive like Andrew suggested, but have been talked out of that too. So maybe I'll just sit in front of the computer with a legal pad and pencil and just copy my data down <ggg>. Not that I have anything which would be any great loss, now that I think of it.
