I know it's much more complicated than my simple example but it illustrates why such an event will never occur. What I don't understand is how an apocolyptic price war that Dell can win would
drive customers away from Dell to the Compaq/HWP/IBM safe haven.
Does not make sense.

What is clear is that Dell has Compaq against the ropes. I used to think that M. Dell was a little too optimistic when he predicted that
Dell would catch Compaq in revenue from PC sales within a few years. Now it not only looks like it but looks like Dell will easily surpass
CPQ in a few years. It should be a real eye opener when the Q1 numbers come out. Dell will be within 20% of CPQ in terms of revenue. Who has the momentum here?

Personally, after studying these two companies in depth for the past few years leads me to believe that Compaq is making all the wrong moves... it almost seems as if they are becoming desperate... similar to the tone of your posts when you defend their superiority.<g> I dumped my remaining shares in this company back in December as I have no confidence in their management or ability to stay ahead of Dell anymore.
