For management at S3, lawsuits and shoddy business have been a blessing in disguise. Let's play musical chairs and give ourselves a raise too. For shareholders, it's quite another story. Likely, the lawsuits are priced into the stock already, the settlement (i.e. payments to lawyers) would likely boost the stock price. (see Brooktree lawsuit)

Management is compensating themselves lavishly for doing a crappy job. Not the kind of people to trust money with.
