Wow Dave, that's some pretty sophisticated and interesting ideas you've come up with. That volatility-adjusted moving average idea would be something that would be great to work on, though SuperCharts (as far as I know) doesn't seem capable of doing any commands at that level. That would probably be in the TradeStation arena (which I returned after the 30-day trial period).

Does MetaStock have such a capability? If so, that might be what'll bump me over the edge on this one; I've been wondering if it would be worth the time and money to get it, but have always decided not to.

I'm speculating that the idea you presented could be used as a momentum player's moving average. The problem with the MA switching according to certain thresholds is the MA's could switch almost daily if the volatility was right on the switch boundary. But for as long as I own S.C., I'm afraid I won't be able to find an answer to these questions about indicator theory. :o(
