Howdy Jack,

That story sounds like what a lot of people think to be the case. Great company, slow down in the sector lasting towards the end of '98, and AMAT coming out at the end with greater dominance of its industry. On the downside, a Japanese meltdown negates all the positives. So longs are at the mercy of Japan's ability to face their fiscal problems and react accordingly. If they make tax codes favorable towards consumption and print money(Milton Friedman), the Armageddon(I've heard this term used on some threads, but those using it don't know what it means clearly) the bears expect can be avoided. More importantly, if the Japanese goverment were to take positive actions in terms of fiscal policy, this would be viewed as very good news by the market.

So what will the Japanese government do? Lip service or action. I know what I would do in the face of such a crisis. Do what you have to do to avoid it and rectify the problems. If what I'm saying is crazy, please tell me.

Bob

I tend to agree with what this Greenspan(genius) fellow says. Of course, he is looking at the larger picture and long-term.
