I've been drinking Kava for about 6 months. It is incredible! I would much rather have it served at a party than alcohol. It is relaxing and conversational with out doing anything stupid. If you drink too much though, you do, and will vomit. I buy pounds of Kava from Kava Kaui some very mellow and friendly people on the island of Kaui.
Aside from possibly vomiting the only other side effects are also from overdosing. You can have troble walking and your around you lips, you mouth can get really red (from the kavalactones). These are from overdose. Moderation is key. You may have to drink a lot, but it is an acquired taste. Really!

Safe to drive- yes

motor skills- I had no noticable depreciation of motor skills. Although I did not test them

side effects- none

sleep- like a baby

expensive- $21 for 80 doses. Bought the standardized liquid in a spray pump. one pump per dosage. Standardized herbs are more expensive but they are also more potent than non standardized. You get what you pay for.

Gave me a true relaxed feeling. Kind of like coming out of a nice sauna. Nice minty flavor too.
